The Hence High Impact Weather (HIWx) Group generally asks two big questions:
- How do the behaviors of cloud systems evolve in their larger-scale environments, and how do those changes impact their resulting precipitation and potential hazards?
- How does the behavior and evolution of these systems manifest in impacts on human systems?
We specialize in examining hazardous cloud systems, ranging in size from hailstorms to hurricanes, using a wide variety of tools: field campaign observations, high-altitude and satellite remote sensing, and computer simulations. Currently, our projects are funded by the National Science Foundation, NASA, and the Department of Energy.
